  • Our Mission

    Vicara is a Sanskrit word used to describe the sustained thought or discernment required for higher enlightenment. It's also a perfect way to describe what a great book can do for your mind. Vicara Books is the second imprint from award winning publishing company Ideapress. Our mission is to work with engaging and exciting authors on new books that change the way people think.

  • Our Story

    Vicara Books is the second imprint from award winning publishing group Ideapress Publishing. The philosophy of our company is to be completely author-centric above all else. We exist to serve our authors and help them produce, distribute and sell amazing books. Our model is an alternative to both self publishing or going with a traditional publisher and sits squarely in between.

     

    The problem with big publishers is they rarely offer the combination of quality expertise and personal attention that authors are hoping for. The problem with self publishing is that authors must handle time consuming logistics and struggle with perceptions that they haven't published a "real book."

     

    We believe that an independent publisher can solve these problems.

     

    In 2017, to expand our company and offer more alternatives for our authors, Ideapress founders Rohit Bhargava and Chhavi Arya teamed up with longtime publishing industry veteran Rich Selby to start our latest and fastest growing imprint - Vicara Books.

    We deliver beautiful books. Our decades of expertise with print ensures your book will never look cheap, reinforce your authority and be a joy to give to anyone or see on a bookshelf from afar.

    2. Production

    We use proven professionals with decades of experience and can handle every aspect of producing your book - from typesetting to indexing. Our team can fill the gaps to help you get your book finished.

    3. Distribution

    Thanks to our relationship with Ingram, we have the same distribution network as a large publisher, routinely placing books in stores as well as selling online.

    What services do you offer in house versus using vendors? 

    We do have some team members who work on multiple projects for us, but we also regularly work with highly talented freelancers. For every project, we always bring together the best team and then work to ensure all the pieces come together perfectly.

     

    Do I have to pay to publish my book with you?

    We are what is known in the industry as a hybrid publisher. This means that you as the author pay for our services and in exchange we work for you. Though you do pay up front, we are very transparent about costs and also help you to map out the financial commitment to help determine how you can make your money back. In addition, we have signed and committed to the industry standard IBPA Hybrid Publisher Criteria for quality, services and selectiveness.

     

    What if I only want to publish an eBook?

    With the ease of online tools like Amazon's Kindle platform, and the fact that it is very difficult to tell a self published book from one published by a publisher in digital version - we usually don't publish books that are only available in digital format. Honestly, it's easier and cheaper for you to do that yourself without a publisher.

     

    Can you get my book into bookstores?

     

    Yes! We currently use Ingram Publisher Services for retail distribution. This relationship means we can get our books into just about any retail bookstore (and many other types of retail outlets) both online and offline within the US. We also have full international distribution to be able to ship our books to just about any country around the world.

     

    What genres of books do you publish?

    So far our focus has been non-fiction and primarily business books. We do have the intention to expand beyond this initial category - however we don't currently publish any other large categories such as children's books or cookbooks.

     

    How can I submit My Project?

    Currently, Vicara Books is selectively accepting new projects on an invitation-only basis. To have your book idea considered or to get more information email chhavi@ideapresspublishing.com.
